Habitat for Humanity Saint Louis is dedicated to eliminating substandard housing in the St. Louis region by helping low-income, hardworking families to build and then buy their first home.
Becoming a Habitat Saint Louis homebuyer is hard work: all of our homebuyers perform 350 sweat equity hours, working on the build site, and taking classes in financial literacy and home maintenance so that they will have the tools they need to care for this long-term investment in the future. Once construction and sweat equity hours are completed, each homebuyer takes on the responsibility of a 30-year affordable mortgage, making payments on an investment in a brighter future.
Our unique volunteer and homebuyer-driven construction model allows members of the community to become the 'boots on the ground' solution to the affordable housing crisis in our region. Since our inception in 1986, we've built more than 450 homes in St. Louis City and County, which have sheltered more than 1,700 men, women and children. In 2017, we began participating in the DOE Zero Energy Ready Home National Program, which combines the standards of ENERGY STAR Homes with proven Building America innovations and best practices, making them 40% - 50% more energy efficient than most new construction homes.
Habitat Saint Louis is committed to being a good steward of your financial investment in our mission and our partner families. In fact, 84 cents of every dollar we raise goes directly to program costs, with just 16 cents going to administrative and fundraising costs. Your generosity today builds a stronger Saint Louis community, one family at a time. Thank you for sharing our vision of a world where everyone has a safe, decent, affordable place to call Home.
