Myasthenia Gravis Association

A nonprofit organization

The Myasthenia Gravis Association is a 60-year-old organization that has expanded throughout the last several years to include the entire reach of the state of Missouri in addition to Kansas and NW Arkansas. The MGA works on the ground to meet the needs of those impacted by myasthenia gravis, in addition to supporting their families, friends, and providers alike. While a small but mighty organization, the MGA is able to offer all of its services to patients 100% free of charge.

Our programs are, but not limited to:

Clinics- the Myasthenia Gravis Association operates three clinic partnerships at the University of Kansas Medical Center (KS), St. Luke's Hospital (KC-MO), and St. Louis University Hospital (STL-MO). Our clinic model provides those impacted with myasthenia gravis unique support and resources as they meet with their neurologist. This service is free of charge to patients with the goal being to help equip them with the appropriate tools to better navigate their diagnosis of a rare disease.

Support Groups- the Myasthenia Gravis Association operates 12 support groups across Kansas, Missouri, and NW Arkansas, 2 of which are in St. Louis including our general St. Louis Support Group and our Young Friends of the MGA Support Group. Our support groups bring those in the MG community together to promote connection and provide education as they deal with the challenges of living with or knowing someone who lives with this chronic illness. Through the pandemic, we have been able to offer virtual support group options which have allowed us to foster and maintain our relationships with the MG community across our areas of service.

New Patient Packets- we provide new patient packets to those who are newly diagnosed across the region. Some of the resources included in these packets are a general overview of what myasthenia gravis is, common treatment protocol, medications to avoid, and mental health resources. The goal of providing new patient packets is to ensure patients feel supported and armed with knowledge as they navigate this new life with this rare disease.

Education and Awareness Events- the Myasthenia Gravis Association puts on 5 signature education and awareness events, 1 of which is our Educational Forum in the St. Louis area. The goal of the forum is to inform MG patients, their families, caregivers, and providers of the latest updates and information in the MG community.

1-1 Consultations- the Myasthenia Gravis Association provides outreach beyond our clinics and support groups to those impacted by MG.

Thank you in advance for your support which allows us to continue to meet the needs of those impacted by myasthenia gravis!
