The mission of Gratitude House is to reduce the rate of relapse by providing a safe, supportive, and beautiful home for sober women who are committed to 12-step recovery. Our program is unlike any other sober living environment in the country because we have:
🩷 An actual home, beautifully furnished and decorated on a one-acre suburban lot.
🩷 Full-time Certified House Manager with 15 years of sobriety.
🩷 High levels of structure and accountability for the residents.
🩷 Daily check-ins and personalized attention.
🩷 A philosophy grounded in the 12-steps of AA and NA.
🩷 An all-female Board that is active and passionate about recovery.
Only 1 in 8 addicts/alcoholics who attempt sobriety reach 90 days. There is a 60% chance that those who leave in-patient treatment will relapse within the first 30 days. When alcoholics and addicts return to the environments that enabled their substance use, the risk of relapse increases because it often brings negative influences and triggers that undermine recovery.
Sober-living homes dramatically reduce the rate of relapse with 68% of residents staying sober for a full year. Gratitude House stands out as the only sober living home for women in St. Louis County. We ensure that our residents are immersed in a community of sober women and given the tools for rebuilding their self-esteem, relationships, and life without drugs and alcohol.
For every $1 spent on treatment and recovery, society saves $7 in costs related to healthcare, crime, and employment. Backed by a strong Board and an Executive Director with extensive experience, Gratitude House is meeting a critical need in the St. Louis area, where the demand for sober living homes far exceeds the available supply. As an organization, we provide a superior model of care that we want to replicate by purchasing additional homes and increasing the number of women we serve.
We have a lengthy and rigorous admissions process to ensure applicants are employable, committed to staying sober, and will contribute positively to our community. While living at Gratitude House, residents are able to stay for up to one year if they follow our house rules:
- Maintain sobriety.
- Attend AA and/ or NA meetings daily + work steps with a sponsor.
- Employed for at least 20 hours a week.
- Complete 10 hours of community service a month.
- Keep the home clean and well-maintained.
- Attend evening check-ins each night and house meetings each week.
- Have bed made by 7:30am and honor 9pm curfew.
- Pay rent on time - $125 a week includes utilities but not food.
Volunteers offer residents financial literacy training, career guidance, and wellness programming. Our aim is for every woman to leave with a solid foundation for living sober, increased confidence, and a network of supportive women to help her sustain her recovery.
We do not receive state or federal funding so that we can maintain high standards and accountability; therefore, we rely 100% on individual donations to cover essential operating costs and contribute to our growth.
