We need your help to defeat Parvo and save more puppies!

Judy's Forgotten Jewells has been renovating its shelter space and making significant improvements to minimize disease transmission and maximize animal comfort and enrichment. Most important among these improvements is a dedicated isolation space for incoming puppies so they can be quarantined before being adopted out or moved into the general shelter population. The isolation room is self-contained with its own cages, sink, HVAC, appliances, medical supplies, storage, and technology, which will be HUGE in keeping our puppies healthy! If they come into our facility with a disease like Parvo, the isolation space will protect the existing animal population while we work diligently to treat the sick puppies.

We take in animals from all over the region so their health and vaccination histories are typically not known or, unfortunately, nonexistent. Every time we save an animal by bringing them into Judy's Forgotten Jewells, it is a risk because there is always the possibility that we may be bringing disease in with the animal. So we can increase the number of lives we save while keeping our, we need to raise money to finish outfitting our isolation space with supplies, which includes purchasing a new Parvo treatment injection that has recently come on the market to rave reviews. The Canine Parvovirus Monoclonal Antibody treatment targets the disease directly with one dose, helps decrease the burden of supportive care, and resolves symptoms like vomiting and lethargy faster than previous treatment plans. We are so excited about the availability of this new treatment and want to make sure we have sufficient stock in our isolation space because we know Parvo will come into the facility even despite all the precautions we take.

Our goal is to raise $5000 on Give STL Day so our isolation space is ready to receive when we start taking in dogs and puppies at the beginning of June! Any additional funds will go towards purchasing more Parvo treatments.

What your donation will help fund

Mission

Judy's Forgotten Jewells is a licensed Non-Profit (501c3) No Kill Animal Rescue Group. It was founded by our veterinarian Patricia L. Smith DVM in 2009 in honor of her mother's childhood dog "Judy Dog" and Jewell Animal Hospital. We believe that all animals deserve quality pet care and a caring home. We typically save animals from local animal controls and also help in rural Midwest states.

Because we are a rescue inside of an animal hospital, we have the unique opportunity to take on cases that are more medically urgent or severe that other rescues may not be able to support financially. We particularly have a soft spot for heartworm-positive dogs and pregnant or nursing mama dogs. While we are thrilled to be able to provide this level of medical care, it is not without significant cost to the rescue. In addition to any emergency medical care they may need, all of our adopted animals are up to date on vaccines, spayed/neutered, dewormed, microchipped, and are on flea/tick and heartworm prevention. We charge an adoption fee, but it rarely covers all of the costs one pet incurs while in our care.

The animals with us have no time limit on how long they can stay. They are part of our family until they find their next home. We provide quality medical and emotional care before finding a loving and permanent home. Then, space can open up for other animals to be rescued for a second chance.

Judy's Forgotten Jewells is supported by volunteers, the Jewell Animal Hospital staff, and pet-passionate people in our community who donate money and supplies. We utilize all available resources to save money but we need generous donations like yours to make an even greater impact in the lives of animals in need throughout our city, state and region.

Our passion is pet adoption and placing healthy and safe animals back into the community. Animals that are elderly, sick, pregnant, or soon-to-be euthanized are the ones we provide sanctuary for. Animals deemed "unadoptable" due to a medical or behavioral issue by other institutions can find hope with our animal shelter. Judy's Forgotten Jewells is about finding the animals that are diamonds in the rough and polishing them up with love and care until the perfect match is found with a new family.
