Kirk❤Care is a non-profit organization formed by the Kirkwood Ministerial Alliance. It is directed and staffed by lay people from the churches within the R-7 school district. Churches, schools, individuals, and many civic organizations in the area contribute to the organization with food and/or money. Our community members take an active role in providing services to those in need for the communities of Kirkwood, Glendale, Warson Woods, Oakland and Des Peres.
Kirk❤Care offers the community and congregations within the Kirkwood R-7 school district a proven process for helping our neighbors in need. We distribute:
- non-perishable food
- food vouchers for fresh food
- bridge the summer hunger gap with kid-friendly food bags over summer months
- personal care items including diapers and feminine care products
- school supplies
- warm clothing
- emergency utility assistance
- children's summer camp educational program assistance
We've been lending a helping hand to our community since 1982. Over 40% of the individuals we serve are children under 18 who greatly need our services as their families struggle to get back on their feet, particularly post-pandemic where lives and employment situations have permanently changed.
In the past three years:
- 2021 Provided in vouchers and utilities: $108,338 with 68 new clients
- 2022 Provided in vouchers and utilities $118,356 with 52 new clients
- 2023 Provided in vouchers and $119, 651 with 54 new clients
Kirk❤Care continues to serve those in most need thanks to our incredible volunteers. We cannot continue our mission without the vital financial and volunteer support from our community.
In addition to providing food and emergency utility assistance to the vulnerable within our community, Kirk❤Care has recently tripled our support of children's programs to reduce hunger and support summer education for underserved children.
- We sponsor meals for the Horizon/SPROG Summer Youth Program for 60 underserved kids to narrow the achievement and opportunity gap by providing high-quality academics, engaging in enrichment activities and healthy lifestyles.
- Partner with the Kirkwood Public Library to distribute children's educational activity bags to families we serve with children in Pre-K to 5th grade.
- Partner with the Kirkwood Special School District for students to enhance life skills by building pantry kits for those we serve.
