Founded in 1983, the Near Southside Employment Coalition (NSEC) was created to assist chronically unemployed and hard-to-employ neighbors in finding meaningful job opportunities
It is our mission to equip individuals with quality training, connection to resources and access to opportunities necessary to obtain long-term employment leading to stable lives.
NSEC has trained over 540 persons in construction trades and office skills. We have placed over 6,500 persons in employment over the past 40-years. Our services include direct job placement, job readiness education and training, career assessment and planning, computer classes, summer youth internships/employment, job referral and follow-up, recruitment support to local employers, and transportation assistance.
We also partner with other agencies in the community for financial education classes (provided by local bank) and Senior On-The Job Training (MERS Goodwill SCSEP). NSEC receives referals from the United Way 211 hotline, various social service agencies and walk-ins. Some of the past and current local employers include, BJC Hospital, UPS, Clean Tech, Doorways, Baily's Resturant, CSL Labs, Hyatt Regency Hotel, Ameren, St. Louis Cardinal Ballpark, St. Louis County School Distirct, Cardinal Ritter Senior Services and City of St. Louis.
We also have student volunteers, including practicum and graduate sturdents, from the local colleges and univeristies. These include SLU, Maryville University, UMSL and Washington University.
NSEC helps anyone who can get to us. Our focus is on helping persons of all backgrounds with sucessefully entering the workforce and sustaining long-term employment. We could not do this without donations from our supporters.
