The University City Summer Band has the following long-term goals:
-Increase access to music for all members of the St. Louis region by offering six free, outdoor public summer concerts

-Provide opportunities for local amateur musicians to participate in a large ensemble

-Engage in a diverse music repertoire that is challenging, vibrant, and familiar

-Recognize the diversity of the broader St. Louis community (including University City) and work towards increasing the diversity of the band members, the musical repertoire, and the audience.

-Invite professional soloists, local conductors, and guest composers as additional artistic components to the group

-Provide an opportunity for local high school students to play with adult musicians to improve their skills, form relationships with adult mentors, and develop a life-long love of music

-Provide music in a venue that is free and accessible. Heman Park is accessible from Olive Blvd and Interstate Highway 170, The park has handicapped parking, public restrooms, and space for children to play and for families to picnic.

Mission

The University City Summer Band provides free, outdoor concerts in June and July each year, upholding the organization's long term goal of increasing opportunities for the St. Louis community to engage with a diverse range of concert band music. With nearly 90 volunteer musicians ranging in age from 18 to 75, each musician contributes skills, experience in the arts, and a commitment to musical growth that inspires other musicians and community members.
