Who We Are

Be Well Café & Grocery Market is a nonprofit social enterprise committed to changing the way our community connects with food, wellness, and opportunity. Based in the Hyde Park neighborhood, we’re building a vibrant, community-driven space where healthy living and local entrepreneurship go hand in hand.

We’re launching a fresh, exciting ecosystem that includes a café serving wholesome, culturally rooted meals; a full-service grocery market stocked with locally grown and community-made goods; and a shared certified kitchen space where aspiring food entrepreneurs can create, grow, and thrive.

In a neighborhood where fresh food options are limited and opportunities for small business owners can be hard to come by, Be Well is designed to fill the gap. We believe everyone deserves access to nutritious food and the tools to build generational wealth through business ownership.

From day one, we’ve listened closely to the needs of our neighbors. The message was clear: our community is hungry for better food choices, business opportunities, and spaces that nourish both body and soul.

2025 marks a bold new chapter—and we’re just getting started. Be Well is where food meets purpose, and community thrives.

Our Impact

At Be Well Café & Grocery Market, our mission is to uplift local farmers, food producers, and entrepreneurs by fostering inclusive economic opportunities, strengthening food access, and empowering communities.

We are creating a vibrant, community-driven ecosystem where healthy food, entrepreneurship, and wellness intersect. Our grocery market offers affordable, fresh produce, pantry staples, dairy, bakery items, personal care products, and diabetic-friendly Grab & Go meals—bringing real options to a neighborhood that has long lacked access to nutritious food.

Our shared certified kitchen is a springboard for BIPOC culinary entrepreneurs—providing a safe, professional space to test, create, and scale their products. It's more than a kitchen—it’s a space for community connection, collaboration, and economic empowerment.

This summer, we’ll break ground on our new Farmers Market Pavilion and outdoor community gathering space, with a grand opening planned for July 2025. Once open, it will be home to a lively, weekly market featuring artisans, local growers, food makers, and small business owners. The market will also accept SNAP and participate in voucher programs to help ensure that fresh, wholesome food is accessible to all.

We also offer coworking space designed to address the real barriers faced by BIPOC entrepreneurs:

  • Financial Capital – By creating access to resources, funding opportunities, and collaborative ventures.

  • Human Capital – Through mentorship, business support, and hands-on training.

  • Social Capital – By fostering networks, visibility, and the relationships needed to grow and thrive.

Our commitment to holistic wellness goes beyond food. We partner with mission-aligned organizations to offer health screenings, nutrition education, and other wraparound services that support the whole person.

In 2024, we completed our rain garden and flower scape, adding beauty, biodiversity, and environmental resilience to our space. Now, with momentum building and strong community support, Be Well is on the rise.

We are reducing disparities in food access, creating new pathways for entrepreneurs, and sparking economic development in a neighborhood full of potential.

Be Well is where food meets purpose—and community thrives.
