Open Door Animal Sanctuary, founded in 1975, is the largest no-kill sanctuary in the greater St. Louis area. We serve the community by taking in stray, abused, neglected and otherwise unwanted cats and dogs and placing them up for adoption. Each day we provide shelter, food, medical care and LOVE to nearly 400 animals. Every animal that comes to us has a home and a second chance at life.  We pride ourselves in making sure the quality of life of our animals is the best it can be.  Our dogs live in heated and air conditioned indoor/outdoor kennels and are walked a minimum of 3 times a day by our staff and volunteers.  They also play in our large outdoor play yards for half the day weather permitting.  Our cats are housed in free roaming catteries and have access to climbing structures, window perches, and many staff and volunteers to provide them enrichment.

We rescue, rehabilitate and rehome more than 1,100 dogs and cats each year.  If you are looking to adopt a dog or cat, we have the most animals to choose from in the area!  Our $150 adoption fee includes spay/neuter, a microchip, the first round of shots and parasite preventative.  Come check out all our great dogs and cats!   And, our cats 1 year and older have a reduced adoption fee of just $75!  We are open 7 days a week from 10 AM - 4 PM for adoptions - no appointment needed!

Other ways we serve the community include:
   • We have a low cost Spay/Neuter program for those families that can't afford regular veterinarians - call our office at 636-671-3643 or e-mail at office@odas.org to schedule an appointment.
   • Provide free pet food
      to low income pet owners.
   • Run a TNR program
    (trap/neuter/release) to
    reduce the feral cat population
    in Jefferson County and
ultimately impact the number of cats being
put down in shelters each year.
  • Participate in community
   outreach programs at local
schools to teach the importance of
   spay/neuter surgery and responsible pet
   ownership.
