INVEST IN OUR FUTURE!

Alongside our continued programming, in the coming years we're planning a capital campaign to land Upstream in its own space. This will allow us to curate year-long programming that celebrates local artistry colliding with global ideas. Every gift, no matter the size, is a signal to us that a member of our community (you!) is in support of our long-term vision.

After twenty-one seasons, fifty-four plays, and thirty-six US premieres we'd love to have a home of our own!

If you see yourself helping us move closer to that goal with a substantial mind-bending gift (anything from 5K to 1M!) please reach out directly to Managing Director Lizi Watt, at lizi@upstreamtheater.org or call 303.325.3220. We'd love to talk further with you and see you can become a crucial ally in our long-term visioning.

WORLD CLASS THEATER FOR A WORLD CLASS CITY

Since 2005, Upstream has been bringing a world of theater to St. Louis, producing plays from places as far-flung as Argentina and Australia. Two-thirds of our shows have been U.S. premieres, and all are chosen for local impact. Upstream shows continue to spark discourse in and beyond our local community.

UNIQUE IN ST. LOUIS

Upstream’s international focus is unique in the region and rare in the country. Our innovative productions of classical and contemporary works have attracted consistent local recognition as well as national acclaim, including three grants from the National Endowment for the Arts. We are the only local company (and first in Missouri) to be awarded a National Theatre Grant from the American Theatre Wing (founder of the Tonys). We have been committed to professionalism since our first production, and have always operated under a full contract with Actors’ Equity, which assures our actors safe working conditions, regulated wages and benefits.

Mission

Upstream Theater is a professional production company dedicated to bringing an international perspective to St. Louis theater. We believe that art engages as much as it entertains, and that by feeding the senses we feed the soul. Our goal is to move you, and to move you to think.

By staging new plays from around the globe we hope to broaden the American repertory while establishing St. Louis as a center for theatrical innovation.
