It's our 15th year funding the best and brightest ideas in cancer research at Siteman Cancer Center and Siteman Kids at St. Louis Children's Hospital! Although our impact has been great - over $45 million in groundbreaking adult & pediatric cancer research funded since 2010 - we still have a long road ahead of us.

The impact of cancer is devastating. Cancer will strike one in two men and one in three women in their lifetimes. One in 285 children will be diagnosed with cancer before their 20th birthday. Pedal the Cause provides direct funding for cancer research, cancer discovery grants and clinical translational medicine not currently eligible for federal funds. Following the “venture capital” model seeding the best new ideas at our beneficiaries, Pedal the Cause dollars allow for proof of concept and cultivation of critical data. These burgeoning projects often lead to incremental successes that garner large external grants, which have produced groundbreaking treatments, clinical trials, preventions and early detection diagnostics.

Pedal the Cause is the cancer-curing engine of St. Louis and the premier cycling experience in the region. Since 2010, Pedal the Cause has donated over $45.8 million to fund cancer-curing research, cancer discovery grants and clinical translational medicine not currently eligible for federal funds. This research is producing new treatments and cures for cancer, and is research that would otherwise go unfunded. To date, Pedal the Cause has funded 219 cancer research projects - 171 adult and 48 pediatric.

Within five years of investment, for every $1 Pedal the Cause donates to fund cancer research, an additional $12 is obtained from outside sources*, like the NCI or NIH, to further advance these projects. With this 12:1 return on investment, Pedal the Cause is responsible for garnering $550 million – over half a billion dollars –  for cancer research since 2010. Not only has this led to accelerated developments in cancer treatments, but this has also contributed to Siteman Cancer Center's standing as a top ten cancer center in the nation - bringing talent, impact and life-saving cures to our community and the world.
