Despite my educational and professional accomplishments, would you believe me if I told you:
- I was born at 5 1/2 months to a teen mom and left at a hospital to die
-I was not expected to speak, walk, or fully comprehend if I survived the past nine months.
-After years of abuse and neglect, at 11 years of age, would survive a house fire and be placed in foster care.
- At 12 years of age, I would attempt suicide.
- I would spend more than a decade in foster care
-At 21 years of age, - I would transition from foster care into adulthood with unresolved childhood trauma manifesting into my young adulthood.
Today, the Foster and Adoptive Care Coalition is needed more than ever before as we continue to provide support for one of our most vulnerable populations: youth impacted by foster care.
