My name is Niles (my Jockey Club name - because I'm a Thoroughbred who used to race - is Beyond the Nile). My sire was Pioneer of the Nile and my dam is Beyond Price. You may know of my half-brother, American Pharoah, who won the Triple Crown. Sure, winning the Triple Crown is a big deal. But helping equines in need? That's a WAY bigger deal.
I was foaled March 25, 2014, and I was retired from racing at the end of January in 2019. I was adopted on May 11, 2019 from The Secretariat Center, a Thoroughbred rehoming facility in Lexington, Kentucky. That's why I promote adoption of all equines needing new homes and a safe landing. My "mom," Wendi, runs Special Horses, and I take my job as Equine Advocate very seriously.
I know there are equines - horses, ponies, minis, mules, donkeys, burros - who are starved. And abused. They are left abandoned without access to food or water, or they are dumped at auction where they will be sold for meat. No equine deserves that!
That's where we help. A lot of rescues are small, and expenses for taking care of horses are BIG. And the people running the rescues know about bringing back a horse from starvation, or rehabilitating a horse that's been abused, but they don't always know how to write a grant or where to ask, or how to make an event flyer, or how to promote and run fundraisers. And that's where Special Horses comes in - we help those small rescues help horses in need.
I am also an artist. My medium is Missouri clay on equine. My work has been sold to help support our mission.
