Black Girls Do STEM (BGDSTEM) is a visionary community-based organization founded in 2019 with a mission to trigger an increased curiosity through deliberate education, access, and opportunity in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics for Black girls ages 11-18 from underserved and low-income communities in St. Louis, Missouri. BGDSTEM’s founder, a passionate advocate for STEM equality, launched the organization to counteract the historical underrepresentation of Black females in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics, striving to be a catalyst for change through education and opportunity.
Black Girls Do STEM empowers young Black girls through a transformative seven-year pathway program. Starting in middle school at age 11 or sixth grade, we ignite a lifelong passion for STEM by providing culturally relevant support, guidance, and resources intentionally designed to uplift Black girls, providing them with the tools and support to dismantle barriers to a holistically healthy life and future.
Since its inception in 2019, BGDSTEM has delivered top-tier STEM education to over 140 girls from underrepresented communities in St. Louis, Missouri. The program's impact has seen remarkable growth, supporting 55 girls in 2021, escalating to 90 in 2022, and reaching over 130 girls in 2023, with the infrastructure to serve up to 160 annually.
